A resident of Arlington since 1999, Demian J. “Dem” McGarry has focused his practice on providing assertive, diligent yet sensitive representation to clients facing issues of divorce, custody, visitation, international custody, property distribution, post-divorce enforcement actions, pre-marital and post-marital agreements, and appeals. Mr. McGarry maintains an active caseload in the District of Columbia and invites those with matters in Washington, DC to inquire about his services.  While always trying to reach an amicable settlement first, Mr. McGarry has extensive experience in high conflict divorce and custody cases. Mr. McGarry also is an experienced appellate attorney and has several reported and unreported family law cases before the Virginia Court of Appeals.

Mr. McGarry received his undergraduate degree from Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Virginia in 1998, where he majored in Public Policy with a concentration in European History and graduated Cum Laude. He was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. Mr. McGarry received his J.D. from the George Mason University School of Law in Arlington, Virginia, where he was Vice President of the Trial Advocacy Association and a member of the Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity.

His professional experience includes having his own solo practice and eight years as an associate alongside a veteran member of the Virginia family law bar in Alexandria, Virginia. Mr. McGarry has been listed for several years as a “Rising Star” in Virginia’s Super Lawyers magazine. He has received a client rating of 4.8 of 5.0 and has received a peer rating of BV Distinguished® from Martindale-Hubbell® Law Directory and Lawyers.com. He has served on the Board of Governors of the Virginia Young Lawyers Conference and is a member of the Alexandria Bar Association. He is a participating attorney in the Alexandria Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court’s Resolver Program that assists pro se litigants in reaching agreements in custody and visitation disputes. He is a contributing attorney to the World Bank’s Women, Business and the Law project. Mr. McGarry has extensive experience representing the unique family law needs of our servicemen and women and has taught continuing legal education seminars to attorneys and JAG officers.
