Dan Schy joined Curran Moher Weis in 2018, bringing with him extensive trial experience and a reputation for zealous advocacy in the courtroom.  Mr. Schy handles all aspects of family law, including divorce, equitable distribution, spousal and child support, custody/visitation, and cases involving domestic violence.  He encourages cooperation between parties with a goal of fair, amicable settlements, preferring to put such personal decisions in the hands of the client rather than those of the judge.  When that’s not possible, Mr. Schy enjoys the challenges of the litigation.

A life-long resident of Northern Virginia, Mr. Schy attended the College of William and Mary, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Government, with Honors, before receiving his Juris Doctorate from the University of Richmond’s T.C. Williams School of Law.  He returned to the DC area shortly thereafter, and since then has focused his practice on family law.  Prior to joining Curran Moher Weis, Mr. Schy practiced family law for firms large and small, and he previously served as the Chair of the Family Law Practice Group for Legal Services of Northern Virginia, a non-profit law firm dedicated to providing free legal assistance to the indigent, elderly and disabled.  At LSNV, Mr. Schy focused on cases involving domestic violence and helped create the Attorney of the Day Program, a project responsible for providing free attorneys to more than 200 victims of domestic violence each year.

In addition to his membership in the Virginia State Bar, the Fairfax Bar Association, and the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, Mr. Schy has participated in Fairfax County’s Domestic Violence Network, served on the Advisory Board for Safe Havens Supervised Visitation/Exchange Program, and provided information sessions at Artemis House, Fairfax County’s shelter for families affected by domestic violence.  Mr. Schy was previously recognized as a SuperLawyers’ Rising Star.
